Three Things You May Not Know About Fleas (That'll Help With A Problem)

Fleas are one of the most aggravating and annoying pests, and they can be terribly hard to get rid of without the help of a pest control agent. If you have a dog or a cat, you probably have them or you have experienced them at some point in your pet ownership. Even though most people are familiar with fleas, most people do not know a lot about them. Here are a few things you should know that may help you get rid of a problem:

Fleas are attracted to heat and light

Just like a lot of other insects, fleas are naturally attracted to heat and lights that emit heat. It can be assumed that the fleas are attracted to heat because they are attracted to warm bodies because they can signify a good food source. You can actually buy flea traps with a light and a sticky glue board that captures the bugs when they get close. It can be a good idea to invest in a few of these traps to set around the floor in your home if you have a major flea problem. You can capture a lot of the bugs and keep them off of your furniture, you, and your pets.

Fleas can hang out in the cracks in the floor

Take a look at your floor. If you don't have carpet and you have fleas, it is easy to assume it should be easy to eradicate the problem, but that is not always the case. Fleas do hang out on hard surfaces just like a lot of other pests. The only difference is, fleas are so small and tiny that they can shimmy their way into the smallest cracks. For example, if you have wood flooring, fleas commonly get into the cracks between the slats where pet dander and hair may also be hanging out.

Fleas despise certain natural elements

Citrus oil, neem oil, tea tree oil, mint—there are multiple natural deterrents for fleas, but this is something a lot of pet owners do not know as they scan the shelves for the latest chemical-laden flea treatment products for pets. If you have a flea problem, it never hurts to implement a few natural remedies to treat your pet, even if you do hire a pest control company to treat the house. The added efforts will be safe for your animals and good conjunctive treatment.
